CoDCR and Steinbeis

Extended Executive Committee of the Council of Danube Cities and Regions (CoDCR) meets in Sofia. There was a noticeable low participation of mayors. However, there is a clear commitment to strengthening capacities to develop projects by using existing facilities, e.g. the status of CoDCR as legal entity.

CoDCR’s general secretariat in Bucharest supports new Romanian presidency in EUSDR.

Early Innovators PPP Meeting Uzhgorod

Uzhgorod, October 16^th: Second Private-Public-Partnership event was focused on Biology, Medicine, Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. Event was held in the premises of Uzhhorod National University – the biggest higher educational and research institution in Transcarpathian Region, Ukraine

The concept of this event was to link research with industry, by stimulating a target-oriented interaction among stakeholders and decision-makers from various regions. Funding opportunities coming from both public and private programs were presented to young entrepreneurs from Ukraine. Purpose of this event was to make young scientists aware of the existence of funding programs and analyze how best practice from Western regions can be adapted to current situation in Eastern Danube region. Foreign participants of the conference met with young entrepreneurs and scientists from Ukraine, who presented their startup projects. The discussions on further cooperation was held between EEII project partners and invited institutions.

EEII – the European Early Innovators Innitiative – is a project of Danube Strategic Project Fund with STM as lead partner.

Review of UzhNU

Welcome remarks were made by Prof. Ihor Studeniak – Vice-Rector of Uzhhorod National University, who encouraged young researchers to explore the opportunities, which exist in Danube Region and are designed to support market-oriented research. Prof, Studeniak assured that Uzhhorod National University as a strategic project partner will continue to support the implementation of EEII. He also pointed out that the University is ready to become project partner in future European Early Innovators Program.

Next speaker, Mr. Jurgen Raizner – director of Steinbeis Romania – described Steinbeis business model in general and explained activities, which are performed in Danube Region. His presentation of EEII indicated benefits for invited stakeholders.

Mr. Mike Nagorkin, organizer of the EEII event in Ukraine, presented the results of the executed research on support infrastructure for young scientists. Mr. Nagorkin has also described the start-up competitions, conferences, innovation parks and funding programmes existing in Ukraine.

Project Partner Common Regions, represented by Mrs. Karolina Fortunenko, spoke about the start-up infrastructure in Slovakia. Ukrainian young entrepreneurs were encouraged to participate in the start-up competitions of Slovakia and use the facilities which exist in Slovakia – in just a few kilometer distance.

AREA Science Park was presented by Mrs. Sara Zanchiello by video conference. She spoke about the support, which will be provided to the young entrepreneurs from Ukraine, who has submitted their start-up ideas to the EEII project consortium.

Students and researchers from Ukraine presented five projects ideas:

Composition of essential oils with wide range of antimicrobial activity;
Artificial reality tourist guide;
Autonomous Injection Module Device;
Radiological monitoring test;
Remote monitoring system with elements of augmented reality

High potential is identified and 3 of the presented projects are pre-selected by Jürgen Raizner for further evaluation.

Kosice, October 15th, 2018: EEII Private-Public-Partnership event was focused mostly on Informational Technology and Artificial Intelligence. Event was held in the premises of Telegrafia a.s. – a highly innovative and global active enterprise.

The event was organized in order to link research with industry by stimulating a target-oriented interaction among stakeholders and decision-makers from various regions. Purpose of this event was to make young scientists aware of the existance of funding programs and analyze how best practice from Western regions can be adapted to current situation in Eastern Danube region. Next event: Uzhgorod

Welcome remarks were made by Mr. Jürgen Raizner, director of Steinbeis Romania. He explained EEII and expressed strong interest in the proposals of the participating young scientists from Slovakia. Kosice Technical University is invited to become project partner in future European Early Innovators Program. EEII project partners were introduced to the attendees.

Mr. Mike Nagorkin, director of Steinbeis Enterprise in Ukraine, presented the results of mapping start-up infrastructure. He described examples which were established in Ukraine successfully with financial support from US and EU investors.

Host of the event, NGO Common Regions, represtended by Mrs. Karolina Fortunenko, introduced the start-up infrastructure in Slovakia.

We thank external experts for their contribution to the sucess of the event:

Radko Lapoš, COE of Education and Innovation Center, Velmax (Slovakia) – presented Erasmus programme for young entrepreneurs;
Csaba Sidor, researcher at Technical University of Kosice (Slovakia) – presented IT infrastructure which can be used by start-ups in the sphere of tourism in Slovakia;
Virág Zsár, coordinator of international office, HÉTFA Research Institute and Center for Economic and Social Analysis (Hungary) – presented new project “iFEMPOWER” what is focused on supporting women entrepreneurship in EU.

Teams composed by students and researchers from Slovakia and Ukraine presented their project ideas. Examples:

App to strengthen efficiency of waiters in restaurants
Hotel and recreational center for pets;
App for selecting and adapting accessories for cars;
City guide for foreigners.

Proposed projects will be evaluated carefully and have the chance to become pilot projects of EEII. If so, the project developers will be coached by EEII project partners and get the chance to present their project ideas to potential investors.

Steinbeis Transfer Management became co-organizer of the German Night in Bucharest. German and Romanian enterprises and people work a lot together and we think that more collaboration is possible, but it is also time to celebrate more together, because more is better.

Right after the German Unity Day (Tag der Deutschen Einheit / 03.10.2018) this event perfectly justified celebrations

A German-Romanian Night in Bucharest, or a sort of Beer Festival, becomes authentic with music made by a real German music group – the “Wiesensteiger Straßenmusikanten”.

Founded in 1986, the Wiesensteiger Straßenmusikanten are a slightly different music club. The band is made up of 14 musicians, most of whom are masters of several instruments and provide the typical live sound of German musicians – what is known as “Octoberfest Style”. Four musicians are also on stage as singers. The repertoire includes not only traditional folk music but also hits, evergreens as well as the most recent mood tracks. Good humor and fun music made the Wiesensteiger Straßenmusikanten well known in Stuttgart Region and beyond. Occasionally performances take place all over Germany. The focus is on engagements to which the Wiesensteiger Straßenmusikanten are committed year after year. Most of their performances take place at street and tent festivals. In addition, company anniversaries or wedding parties. 3 CDs were recorded. Wiesensteiger Straßenmusikanten are named after their regional origin, the town of Wiesensteig in Stuttgart region, Germany.

CoDCR meeting Ulm

The Extended Executive Committee of the Council of Danube Cities and Regions (CoDCR) meets in Ulm. Jürgen Raizner, also director of the Steinbeis Enterprise in Romania, welcomes the mayors of 4 Romanian Danube cities. Representatives from 10 countries of Danube Region meet for 2 days in Ulm. Under the working title “SMART, SUSTAINABLE AND SOCIAL DANUBE CITIES“ members and partners of CoDCR present their ongoing Danube projects. The executive committee envisages to establishing a new institutional structure of the CoDCR until next meeting in October 2017. Dr. Batazs Seneczey, vice-mayor of Budapest, invites the members to that meeting. To him as representative of Istvan Tarlosof, lord mayor of Budapest, is handed over the presidency of CoDCR by Ulm’s lord mayor Gunter Czisch.

Start Ups in the Danube Region

Steinbeis Donau Zentrum at the Start Ups Event in the Danube Region
The Institute for Danube Region and Central Europe has organised an interactive event called “Start me up! Start time in the Danube Region?” on the 30th of March, 2017, in the Vienna Ballhaus. Young leaders and founders of start-ups exchanged their experience in founding and overcoming the faces of development of start ups. The outcome underlines 3 notions: young, smart, innovative – as a founding scene in the CEE region, where highly educated people can develop their entrepreneurial skills in founding new start ups. What counts are the spirit, courage and visions – and of course an political and economic environment that provides just the right support to bring groundbreaking innovations to the market and to keep the domestic industry competitive.
As Steinbeis, a defining feature of us, is its entrepreneurial approach to longstanding know-how and technology transfer. Our nearly 1,100 transfer enterprises are central to the Steinbeis model. These have delegated responsibility for their organization but operate under a central framework under the overall Steinbeis umbrella. They benefit from assumption of third-party liability for their projects, the powerful Steinbeis brand which has developed over the course of many years, and the advantages of a central framework which paves the way for them to focus on actual project work, with the central aim of efficient collaboration between science and academia on the one hand, and business and individual companies on the other. This is a type of successful start up since 1971.
By the way, the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM) addresses current questions regarding the Danube region, Central and Southeast Europe to enhance knowledge about the region and promote good neighbourly relations.
IDM is carrying out and promoting research on current topics from the Danube region, CEE and SEE. The IDM series of publications provides regular information on the region.
Additionaly, was issued a special edition of IDM magazine on the issue of start ups in the DR.
